Los cambios operados en los últimos años en la estrategia de siembra del cultivo de maíz en diferentes regiones ubica el período entre floración y madurez comercial en condiciones climáticas contraproducentes para la pérdida de humedad de los granos. El período de madurez de loa granos de maíz, se dividió en dos etapas, primero desde floración hasta madurez fisiológica, donde se define el peso de grano (PG), y segundo la etapa de secado de granos, donde se define la humedad del grano (HG) a cosecha.
