[[abstract]]We reported the study on the preparation and the electrocatalytic properties of self-assembled monolayers of a water-soluble cobalt(III) meso-tetrakis(N- methyl-4-pyridyl) porphyrin (CoTMPyP) on gold disk. Cyclic voltammetry showed that the modified electrode is stable, lowers the overpotentials and improves the electrochemical oxidation of 2-mercaptoethanol in 0.1 M NaOH solutions, as compared to the bare Au. Absorption spectral results showed that Co(III/II) center of CoTMPyP involved in the oxidation reactions. The electrocatalytic reaction mechanisms were proposed.[[note]]SC
