Wybór tematu prezentowanej pracy jest wynikiem zainteresowań autorki związanych z postrzeganiem wykonawstwa historycznego w środowisku krytyków muzycznych. Przedmiotem analizy są recenzje dotyczące występów zespołów Jordiego Savalla oraz Johna Eliota Gardinera zaczerpnięte z czterech czasopism muzycznych, dwóch polskich − „Ruch Muzyczny” oraz „Canor” − i dwóch brytyjskich − „Early Music” oraz „The Musical Times”. Podstawą doboru źródeł była wola skompletowania opinii prezentowanych zarówno w pismach dotyczących stricte muzyki dawnej („Canor”, „Early Music”), jak i takich, w których prezentuje się tematy obejmujące muzykę różnych epok („Ruch Muzyczny”, „The Musical Times”).
