Cultural and spiritual transformations of societies of western Europe in the second half of the 20th century in context of Michel Houellebecq’s literary work and twentieth-century world literature.

Text is the careful analysis of spiritual and social-cultural transformations that have place in western Europe in the second half of the 20th century (analysis concerns phenomenons such as McDonaldization of society or consumerism). The analysis of transformations are based on Michel Houellebecq’s literary work (especially on two novels: “Whatever” and “The Elementary Particles”), and also they are based on twentieth-century world literature. The main goal of master's thesis is to find a reason of this sudden transformation, analysis of its course and reflection about its consequences.Praca jest wnikliwą analizą przemian duchowych i społeczno-kulturowych, jakie zaszły w Europie zachodniej w drugiej połowie XX wieku (analiza dotyczy zjawisk socjologicznych takich jak między innymi makdonaldyzacja czy konsumpcjonizm). Przemiany te analizowane są przede wszystkim w oparciu o twórczość Michela Houellebecqa (ze szczególnym naciskiem na powieści "Poszerzenie pola walki" oraz "Cząstki elementarne"), a także w oparciu o dwudziestowieczną literaturę światową. Celem pracy jest znalezienie genezy gwałtownej przemiany, analiza jej przebiegu i refleksja nad jej możliwymi konsekwencjami
