Symmetry analysis of angle changes in joints of lower limbs during running by using low-cost and widely available tools.

Praca zawiera doniesienia wstępne dotyczące analizy symetrii zmian kątów stawowych kończyn dolnych w biegu na bieżni, przy zastosowaniu tanich i ogólnodostępnych narzędzi. Celem pracy było określenie stopnia asymetrii parametrów kinematycznych w stawie skokowo - goleniowym, kolanowym i biodrowym prawej i lewej kończyny dolnej w 10 osobowej grupie biegaczy. Przeprowadzono dwuwymiarową analizę w oparciu o zapis video sekwencji 15 cykli kroków, które uśredniono za pomocą stworzonego na potrzeby programu „Interpolator”. Do oceny asymetrii pomiędzy prawą i lewą kończyną dolną zastosowano współczynnik symetrii (SI). Badania wykazały bark pełnej symetrii we wszystkich badanych stawach oraz duży rozrzut wartości SI w zakresie od 2,60% - 57,74%. Największe wartości SI odnotowano podczas maksymalnego wyprostu w stawach kończyn dolnych w fazie odbicia dla stawu biodrowego (SI=57,74%) i skokowo – goleniowego (SI=21,84%) oraz w fazie Initial Contact dla stawu kolanowego (SI=45,33%). Największą wartość SI w analizie zakresu ruchu uzyskał staw skokowo – goleniowy (SI=15,31%), następnie staw biodrowy (SI=8,92%) oraz staw kolanowy (SI=3,30%). Zastosowana metodyka pozwala w tani i prosty sposób uzyskać parametry kinematyczne do analizy biegu. Tymczasem, większość szczytowych wartości parametrów kinematycznych znacząco różni się od wartości normatywnych opisanych w literaturze przedmiotu, dlatego tez należy usprawnić automatyzację i precyzję pomiaru. Należy również wykonać badania na większej, bardziej reprezentatywnej grupie biegaczy, aby określić normy występowania asymetrii zmian kątów stawowych w poszczególnych stawach kończyn dolnych.The thesis presents a preliminary study of the symmetry level between kinematic parameters in sagittal plane during treadmill running. The aim of the study was to determine the degree of asymmetry of the angle changes in ankle, knee and hip joint between right and left lower limb in group of ten healthy runners. Video - based, two - dimensional analysis was conducted, by using a low - cost and widely available devices. The sequence of 15 stride cycles of the right and left side were recorded separately during treadmill running. Stride cycles were averaged in the use of “Interpolator” – program written especially for the study purpose. The asymmetry between the right and left lower limb was evaluated by using the symmetry index (SI). The study has shown the lack of complete symmetry in all evaluated parameters and large spread of SI values in the range of 2.60% - 57.74%. The highest SI values were recorded during maximum extension in the joints of the lower limbs: during toe off phase in the hip joint (SI=57, 74%) and the ankle joint (SI = 21.84%) and during Initial Contact phase in the knee joint (SI = 45.33%). The greatest SI value of the range of motion obtained the ankle joint (SI = 15.31%), followed by the hip joint (SI = 8.92%) and the knee joint (SI = 3.30%). The applied methodology allows to obtain kinematic data for the running analysis, in low-cost and simple way. Nevertheless, the automation and precision of measurement should be improved, because most of the peak values of kinematic parameters differ significantly from the standard values described in the literature. More research, on a larger, more representative group of runners should be done to determine the standard asymmetry level of angle changes in lower limb joints during running
