Medea - child-murderess? The reconstruction of the genesis of the Medea's mithological character and the influence of the Euripides' tragedy on the image of this character.

Głównym celem pracy było przedstawienie w jaki sposób jeden z najstarszych mitów został zmieniony przez jednego z największych tragików starożytnej Grecji. W pracy została szczegółowo omówiona sytuacja mitu o Argonautach w źródłach przedeurypidejskich oraz w jaki sposób motyw dzieciobójstwa został przedstawiony w innych mitach. Opisuje również rolę kultu Hery Akraii w historii Medei oraz kwestię przypisywania dramatu antycznemu tragikowi Neofronowi uważanemu za źródło inspiracji Eurypidesa. Ostatecznie pokazuje, że nie tylko pisarze mieli wpływ na zmianę mitu, lecz również aktorzy, którzy wystawiali go na scenie.The main aim of this work was to clarify how one of the oldest myths has been changed by the creativity of one of the greatest tragedians of ancient Greece. In this work, the situation of the Argonauts’ myth is discussed in detail in sources before Euripides and how the motif ofinfanticide was presented in other myths. I take into account the role of the cult of Hera Akraia in the story of Medea. Also, I discuss the issue of assigning drama to antique tragedian Neofron who is considered a source of Euripides’ inspiration. Finally, I present that not only the writers had an impact on the modification of the myth, but also the actors who represented it on the stage
