Not availableLiesbet Hooghe and Gary Marks developed a theory about inclusive identity as an important factor for strengthening European identity. They assume that a person has multiple identities and for example can have a strong national attachment and be positively oriented to European integration and the idea of a European identity at the same time. According to Hooghe and Marks, this depends on whether a person conceives his or her national identity as exclusive or inclusive of other territorial identities.
