Self-destruction in relation to depression and personality. Studies among adolescents.

The purpose of this study is to answer the following questions: to what extent the problem of the self-destruction concerns Polish adolescents, which personality traits are characteristic for self-destructive person, and to what degree self-destruction is associated with depression.Representative sample of students (N=417) has been taken out from secondary classes secondary school students. Whole group has been examined using Beck Depression Inventory, Krakow Depression Inventory and NEO-FFI Personality Inventory.Based on the results obtained following conclusions: self-destructive people are characterized by high agreeableness and largely suffer depression. Higher intensity of self-destruction has been observed in men. Self-destruction also appears to be associated with high levels of extraversion and conscientiousness, as well as with low level of neuroticism. Openness to experience has no impact on self-destruction. Unexpected outcome of the study is to detect a connection between depression and low intensity of neuroticism.Celem niniejszej pracy jest odpowiedź na pytanie, w jakim stopniu problem autodestruktywności dotyczy polskich adolescentów, jakimi cechami osobowości charakteryzują się osoby autodestrukcyjne oraz w jakim stopniu autodestruktywność jest powiązana z depresją.Reprezentatywna próba 417 uczniów drugich klas szkół ponadgimnazjalnych została przebadana Skalą depresji Becka, Krakowskim Inwentarzem Objawowym oraz Inwentarzem Osobowości NEO-FFI.Okazało się, że osoby autodestrukcyjne charakteryzują się wysoką ugodowością oraz w dużej mierze cierpią na depresję. Wyższe natężenie autodestruktywności zaobserwowano u mężczyzn. Autodestrukcja okazuje się także być związana z wysokim poziomem ekstrawersji i sumienności, a także niskim poziomem neurotyczności. Otwartość na doświadczenie nie ma wpływu na autodestruktywność. Niespodziewanym rezultatem badań jest wykrycie związku między obecnością depresji a niskim nasileniem neurotyzmu
