Hukou System in China. Its Impact on Access to Education and Labour Market in Rural Areas.

The thesis deals with the subject of the hukou registration system in China. It drafts the system's history from the ancient times till the contemporary age, with special focus on the PRC, both its Chinese and foreign roots (the Soviet propiska). The analysis is divided into two periods:1949-1978 and after 1978. The functions of the system in the past and nowadays are explained, especially the migration control and its implications, the division of the society into the rural and urban populations with separate social benefit systems, rights and priviledges. The thesis describes the difficult situation of the rural people migrating to the cities, their problems with access to the labour market and education as well as the problem of income disparity in China.The author highlights the contribution of the migrant population, mostly cheap labour, to the economic development of China.Praca poświęcona jest systemowi meldunkowemu hukou w ChRL. Zarysowana została jego historia w Chinach, od czasów najdawniejszych do współczesności, jego chińskie i pozachińskie korzenie (sowieckie propiska). Analiza systemu w ChRL podzielona jest na dwa etapy- lata 1949-1978 oraz okres po 1978 roku. Opisane są funkcje systemu wczoraj i dziś, zwłaszcza kwestia kontroli migracji i jej implikacje. Ukazany jest podział społeczeństwa na ludność miast i wsi o odrębnych systemach świadczeń socjalnych, prawach i przywilejach. Przedstawiona jest trudna sytuacja ludności wiejskiej migrującej do miast, jej problem z dostępem do rynku pracy oraz edukacji, kwestia luki dochodowej. Autorka zwraca uwagę na rolę chińskich wewnętrznych migrantów,głównie taniej siły roboczej, w chińskim wzroście gospodarczym
