Synthesis and properties of montmorillonite-hydrogel nanocomposites based on polyacrylates.

In this master thesis characteristics of nanocomposites based on layered aluminosilicates (montmorillonite) and hydrogel polymers (polyacrylamide, ammonium polyacrylate) is presented. The studied nanocomposites were synthesized by the in situ polymerization performed in an aqueous slurry of the clay. Three series of materials varying in a kind of montmorillonite (source and initial modification) and polymer composition (polyacrylamide, ammonium polyacrylate as well as copolimers containing polyacrylamide and ammonium polyacrylate at the molar ratio of 3:1, 1:1 and 1:3) were obtained. The structure of the synthesized samples was examined by powder X-ray diffraction and FT-IR spectroscopy. Intercalation of polymer into the interlayer space of the clay was observed in the case of using of polyacrylamide and organofilized montmorillonite. The polymer content and thermal stability of hydrogel were determined. The swelling properties in water were discussed. The samples were tested in a role of Fe(III) ion adsorbents. The nanocomposites based on pure ammonium polyacrylate deposited on the outer surface of the clay appeared to be the most effective adsorbents. The materials after the sorption process were calcined. Iron-modified montmorillonites showed a catalytic activity in the total oxidation of toluene.W prezentowanej pracy przedstawiono charakterystykę materiałów nanokompozytowych opartych na glinokrzemianach warstwowych (montmorylonicie) oraz polimerach hydrożelowych (poliakrylamid, poliakrylan amonu). Nanokompozyty wytworzono metodą polimeryzacji in situ w wodnej zawiesinie materiału ilastego. Przygotowano trzy serie preparatów różniące się typem użytego montmorylonitu (miejsce pochodzenia, rodzaj wstępnej modyfikacji) oraz składem części polimerowej (poliakrylamd, poliakrylan amonu oraz kopolimery zawierające poliakrylamid i poliakrylan amonu w stosunku molowym 3:1, 1:1 oraz 1:3). Zsyntetyzowane próbki poddano badaniom rentgenostrukturalnym oraz metodą spektroskopii w podczerwieni ustalając ich strukturę. Stwierdzono zajście interkalacji montmorylonitu do przestrzeni międzywarstwowych w przypadku poliakrylamidu oraz zastosowania do syntezy organofilizowanej formy montmorylonitu. Ustalono zawartość części organicznej oraz jej stabilność termiczną. Określono chłonność uzyskanych preparatów nanokompozytowych względem wody oraz przetestowano je w roli adsorbentów jonów Fe(III). Najefektywniejszymi sorbentami okazały się próbki oparte na czystym poliakrylanie amonu zdeponowanym na zewnętrznej powierzchni glinokrzemianu. Poddane procesowi sorpcji próbki skalcynowano. Montmorylonity modyfikowane żelazem wykazywały aktywność katalityczną w procesie utleniania toluenu
