Alfred Hitchcock is known as a master of suspense. As he said, he was “ a planner, who manipulates human situations and feelings, in order to cause fear and surprise”. When asked what is the purpose of his films, the director says that he wants "to make the audience suffer." Hitchcock introduces conscious play with a recipient, who accepts principles laid down by him. Immanent poetics is an interpretation of a recipient. It is what viewer reads from the text on the basis of poetics formulated by the director. “I don't care about the subject matter; I don't care about the acting; but I do care about the pieces of film and the photography and the sound track and all of the technical ingredients that make the audience scream. I feel it’s tremendously satisfying for us to be able to use the cinematic art to achieve something of mass emotion “– said Hitchcock in the interview with Truffaut. The main purpose of Hitchcock’s pure cinema is to cause the audience to emote. It’s the art of using cinematic techniques (both visual and aural) to create suspense and draw the audience psychologically and emotionally into the world of his films.
