Metaphor in the heading of journalistic texts in communist period in Poland ( 1960-1970)

This study is a continuation initiated by the Walery Pisarek research heading in the press, but in a slightly different approach. The subject of this study are the metaphors contained in the headers of journalistic texts. Metaphorical expressions derived from a specific source - from the weekly "Polityka" and the newspaper "Trybuna Ludu", which during the communist period were the official authority and the main tools of propaganda medium. The material covers a period of decades - from 1960 to 1970. Volumes and the numbers of these two letters were selected randomly, however, so that a year after one issue contained a paper of every month. It is in both papers - 120 numbers, which was excerpted all metaphoric heading from articles -and news heading.Metaphors submission functional analysis is to determine what kinds of metaphors found in the titles of journalistic material in a specific release of the 1960s to 1970, and their quantitative analysis and determine what they are.An important stage of the study was take notes metaphoric heading of all the heading and news articles that were numbered in selected papers. The first part of the work contain the definition of research tools, the criteria for recognition of metaphors and a brief historical sketch concerning the development of science on metaphor.The second part compose the classification of the material made due to the syntactic structure of metaphors, categorical attributes modifier and the third division - because of the recurring themes and modifiers. Third part of the work is primarily a commentary of the material and the statistical results on classification.The procedure for extraction of metaphors and their analysis is based on the theory of anomalies, but helpful in deepening the understanding of semantic mechanisms occurring in the process became a metaphorical concept of R. Tokarski.The observation recorded in the headers of metaphors in terms of repetition in these subjects and modifier allows you to create some kind of map of the current topics on which organs of communist regime wanted to direct the reader's attention, thereby turning it from a much more important substantive issues. This study substantiate that the metaphor can be a tool for simplifying of reality and was manipulating the readers, and also it was creating a more optimistic vision of the situation of Polish.Niniejsza praca stanowi kontynuację zapoczątkowanych przez Walerego Pisarka badań nad nagłówkiem w prasie, ale w nieco innym jednak ujęciu. Przedmiotem tego studium są metafory zawarte w nagłówkach tekstów dziennikarskich. Wyrażenia metaforyczne pochodzą z ściśle określonego źródła - z tygodnika „Polityka” i dziennika „Trybuna Ludu”, które w okresie komunizmu stanowiły oficjalne narzędzia partii i główne medium propagandowe. Materiał obejmuje okres dziesięciolecia – od 1960 do 1970. Roczniki, jak i poszczególne numery tych dwóch pism wybrane zostały losowo, jednak tak, aby jeden rocznik zawierał po jednym numerze pisma z każdego miesiąca. Jest to w przypadku obydwu pism 120 numerów, z których wynotowano wszystkie metaforyczne nagłówki artykułów i wiadomości.Poddanie metafor analizie funkcjonalnej ma na celu ustalenie, jakie rodzaje metafor występują w tytułach dziennikarskich w ściśle określonym materiale prasowym lat 1960 do 1970 oraz ich analiza ilościowa i określenie do czego one służą.Ważnym etapem pracy było wynotowanie nagłówków metaforycznych spośród wszystkich nagłówków wiadomości i artykułów prasowych, które znajdowały się w wybranych numerach gazet. Pierwszą część pracy stanowi określenie narzędzi badawczych, kryteriów rozpoznawania metafor oraz krótki rys historyczny dotyczący rozwoju nauki nad metaforą.W części drugiej dokonana jest klasyfikacja materiału ze względu na budowę składniową metafor, cechy kategorialne modyfikatora i trzeci podział – ze względu na powtarzające się tematy i modyfikatory. Część trzecią pracy stanowi przede wszystkim komentarz materiału oraz wyniki statystyczne dotyczące klasyfikacji.Procedura wyodrębniania metafor i ich analizy jest oparta na teorii anomalii, ale pomocna w pogłębieniu wiedzy na temat mechanizmów semantycznych zachodzących w procesie metaforyzacji stała się także koncepcja R. Tokarskiego. Obserwacja zanotowanych w nagłówkach metafor pod względem powtarzania się w nich tematów i modyfikatorów pozwala na stworzenie swego rodzaju mapy tematów wówczas aktualnych, na które organa władzy chciały skierować uwagę czytelnika, odwracając ją tym samym od znacznie ważniejszych kwestii merytorycznych. Praca pozwoliła stwierdzić, że metafora może stanowić narzędzie służące upraszczaniu rzeczywistości, kreowaniu bardziej optymistycznej wizji sytuacji Polski i manipulacji czytelnikami
