Reality TV as a journalistic genre.

The purpose of this Master’s thesis is to define the genre of "reality TV". For this reason, the author pointed out the most common ways of defining the concept and compared the approach of foreign and Polish researchers. In addition, the author analyzed their opinions about the spectators and participants in such programs and the general perception of reality shows.In the first chapter the context of television culture is discussed. There are also the explanations of the concept of "culture", "mass culture" and characteristics of the television as a medium. This chapter pays also attention to the role that television plays in popular culture. At the end the author of this thesis discusses the phenomenon of “culture expose” (in the context of mass culture) and confronts it with chosen reality TV programs.The second chapter is devoted to discussion of reality TV in the context of journalistic species. Quoted definitions of "journalistic species" and species of “electronic media." After a theoretical introduction the author characterizes the phenomenon of reality TV, its history and gives a brief characterization of the most important programs of this genre.The third chapter is based on the analysis of scientific publications. Its attempt is to define the reality TV genre by citation of different ways of understanding this phenomenon by the researchers. The author proposes a new classification and selects the most appropriate definition. What’s more, the author examines viewing and participation motives in such programs. Attention is drawn to the negative opinions of scholars on reality TV programs, what is the cause of the skeptical attitude of people to them.Celem niniejszej pracy była próba zdefiniowania gatunku „reality TV”. Z tego powodu autorka wskazała najczęstsze sposoby określenia tego pojęcia oraz porównała podejścia zagranicznych oraz polskich badaczy. Ponadto zanalizowano opinie badaczy na temat widzów i uczestników tego typu programów oraz ogólnego postrzegania widowisk reality. W pierwszym rozdziale została omówiona telewizja w kontekście kultury masowej. Wyjaśniono pojęcia „kultura”, „kultura masowa” oraz scharakteryzowano telewizję jako medium. Zwrócono ponadto uwagę na rolę jaką telewizja pełni w kulturze masowej. Na koniec omówiono zjawisko kultury obnażania (w kontekście kultury masowej) i skonfrontowano z nią programy reality TV.Drugi rozdział poświęcony jest omówieniu reality TV w kontekście gatunków dziennikarskich. Przytoczono definicje „gatunków dziennikarskich” oraz gatunków „mediów elektronicznych”. Po teoretycznym wstępie scharakteryzowano zjawisko reality TV poprzez nakreślenie jego historii i krótkie scharakteryzowanie najważniejszych, obecnie, programów tego gatunku.Trzeci rozdział powstał na podstawie analizy publikacji naukowych. Podjęto próbę zdefiniowania gatunku reality TV poprzez przytoczenie różnych sposobów pojmowania tego zjawiska przez badaczy. Prześledzono tym samym historię rozwoju gatunku. Zaproponowano nowy podział oraz wyłoniono, zdaniem autorki, najodpowiedniejszą definicję. Zbadano również motywy oglądania oraz uczestniczenia w tego typu programach. Zwrócono uwagę na negatywne opinie badaczy o programach reality TV, co jest przyczyną sceptycznego nastawienie ludzi do nich
