THE SHORTAGE OF PSYCHOSOCIAL RESOURCES IN MOTIVATION TO COMMIT PARTICULAR CRIME ACT.

The research problem discussed in this paper concerns the relations which happen between the shortage of psycho-social resources and the motivation to commit particular crime act. The reason for undertaking this topic is the increasing rate of crime in the whole world. Simultaneously the increasing number of mental illnesses, which are often the reason for committing a criminal act, is a very topical issue. Because of the stress which follows everyday life people face more hardships in adapting to new conditions and eventually the constructive methods of dealing with life difficulties cease to be effective. Therefore I believe that the analysis of the motivation to commit a criminal act is important in the fight against crime. Combining a particular type of crime with the experience of shortage of certain psycho-social resources, allows the promotion of prevention in the judiciary. In the first chapter, which is aimed at situating the term of motivation in the crime act genesis, I began from explaining the term itself. The structure and dynamics of motivational process is also presented.Then I moved to the presentation of the outline of criminal behaviour specificity including the reasons which lead to it. This segment examines biological, psychological and social factor, and the relations between them, as the source of deviant behaviour. The next point of the first chapter introduces the matter of crime which includes both the categories of criminal acts, which occurred most often during the research, and the theoretical division of criminal offenders.In the second chapter of the theoretical part, the Theory of Maintenance of Resources by Steven E. Hobfoll is introduced. The general theory was broadened by the division of psycho-social resources and the explanation of their influence both on human behaviour and the strategies of dealing with difficult situations.The empirical part of this paper includes the discussion of the research from methodological and statistical side. In order to enable the analysis of the research material seven hypotheses were formulated. The hypotheses were verified by the means of following psychological methods:•Interview•The questionnaire of the assessment of maintenance of resources (Steven E. Hobfoll)•Strategic approach to the scale of self management (Steven E. Hobfoll)The formulated hypotheses are undirected which means that they assume the existence of differences among the groups without determining them. The statistic analysis was conducted with a T-Student test in the package Statistica. Hypotheses 1-4 concern the shortage of psycho-social resources with differentiation between types of resources. They also include the division of criminals into two groups: aggressive and nonagressive offenders. Those hypotheses were not confirmed which might have been caused by unequal distribution of the number of participants in particular groups, the lack of statistic dependence or other factor which will be discussed. The other hypotheses concern the preventive strategies which are used by an individual in difficult situations. Obviously those strategies can be adaptive however due to the subject of this paper I focused on the non-adaptive ones. These hypotheses were confirmed which points to the fact that indeed particular strategies were more common among certain offenders than in other groups. The use of negative preventive strategies results from the shortage of certain resources.The conclusions mainly emphasize the stress which should be put on the proper course of the process of socialization as a way of preventing crime acts. The data can be also a starting point for future research which could determine or completely exclude the relations which were not confirmed in this paper because of too small number of participants. The knowledge of the types of motivation which most often lie behind crime acts could be helpful in creating the education and preventive programs.Poruszony w niniejszej pracy problem badawczy, dotyczy związków, jakie zachodzą między deficytem zasobów psychospołecznych a motywacją do podjęcia określonego czynu przestępczego. Powodem podjęcia tej tematyki, jest narastająca ilość przestępstw na całym świecie. Jednocześnie, aktualnym problemem jest zwiększająca się ilość chorób psychicznych, będących nierzadko przyczyną popełnienia czynu karalnego. Stres, jaki niesie ze sobą codzienność sprawia, że ludzie napotykają coraz większe trudności w adaptacji do warunków, w których żyją, a konstruktywne metody radzenia sobie w sytuacjach trudnych, przestają być skuteczne. Dlatego też uważam, iż analiza motywacji do popełnienia przestępstwa jest niezwykle ważna w walce z przestępczością, a połączenie konkretnego typu przestępstwa z doświadczaniem pewnego deficytu zasobów psychospołecznych, umożliwia propagowanie prewencji i profilaktyki w wymiarze sprawiedliwości.W pierwszym rozdziale, którego celem jest umiejscowienie pojęcia motywacji w genezie czynu przestępczego, zaczęłam od wyjaśnienia pojęcia motywacji. Szczegółowy przegląd dotychczasowych koncepcji teoretycznych, pozwolił na dotarcie do współczesnych poglądów na naturę motywacji. Uwzględniona została również struktura oraz dynamika procesu motywacyjnego. Następnie, przeszłam do przedstawienia zarysu specyfiki zachowań przestępczych, z uwzględnieniem przyczyn, które do nich prowadzą. Rozpatrzone zostały zarówno czynniki biologiczne, psychologiczne jak i społeczne, a także interakcja między nimi, jako źródło zachowań dewiacyjnych.Kolejnym punktem rozdziału, jest wprowadzenie w tematykę przestępstw, z uwzględnieniem zarówno kategorii czynów przestępczych, które najczęściej pojawiały się w badaniach, jak i teoretycznym podziałem sprawców przestępstw. Drugi rozdział części teoretycznej, stanowi wprowadzenie do Teorii Zachowania Zasobów, Stevena E. Hobfolla. Ogólne omówienie teorii, poszerzone zostało opisem podziału zasobów psychospołecznych, mechanizmu wywierania przez nie wpływu na funkcjonowanie człowieka oraz strategii radzenia sobie, stosowanych w trudnych sytuacjach.Empiryczna część pracy, zawiera omówienie badań od strony metodologicznej. Aby móc analizować postawiony problem badawczy, postawiono siedem hipotez statystycznych. Zostały one zweryfikowane za pomocą następujących metod psychologicznych:•Wywiad, •Kwestionariusz Oceny Zachowania Zasobów (S.E. Hobfoll), •Strategiczne Podejście do Skali Radzenia Sobie (S.E.Hobfoll)Postawione hipotezy są bezkierunkowe, co oznacza, że zakładają istnienie różnic, między wyróżnionymi spośród badanych grupami, bez określania kierunku tych różnic.Hipotezy 1-4, dotyczą deficytów zasobów psychospołecznych, z rozróżnieniem na rodzaje zasobów, a także, z uwzględnieniem podziału sprawców przestępstw na dwie grupy; sprawców czynów agresywnych i nieagresywnych. Hipotezy te nie potwierdziły się, co mogło być związane z nierównomiernym rozłożeniem liczebności poszczególnych grup, brakiem zależności statystycznej lub innymi czynnikami, które zostaną omówione.Pozostałe hipotezy dotyczą strategii zaradczych, stosowanych przez jednostkę w sytuacjach trudnych. Oczywiście strategie te, mogą być adaptacyjne, jednak z uwagi na tematykę pracy, skupiłam się na strategiach nie adaptacyjnych. Hipotezy te potwierdziły się, co wskazuje na fakt, że wśród sprawców poszczególnych przestępstw, rzeczywiście określone strategie były stosowane częściej, niż w pozostałych grupach.Wnioski do dalszych badań, dotyczą głównie położenia silnego nacisku na prawidłowy przebieg procesu socjalizacji, jako możliwości zapobiegania działaniom przestępczym. Stanowią również punkt wyjścia do dalszych badań, które pozwoliłyby potwierdzić lub całkowicie wykluczyć związki, jakie nie zostały potwierdzone w hipotezach, z uwagi na małą liczebność grup. Znajomość rodzajów motywacji, która najczęściej przyświeca sprawcom czynów karalnych, mogłaby bowiem być pomocna w konstrukcji programów wychowawczych i profilaktycznych
