Functional equivalence in legal translations based on Polish and British contracts of employment

Master's thesis presents the functional equivalence in legal translation. This issue is discussed on the example of Polish and British documents of contracts of employment. The work undertaken are the issues of language functionality and its impact on the achievement of functional equivalence in such texts. Here were also identified other factors that influence the choice of translation strategies in the process of translating the documents in question. Issues of cultural, stylistic and system differences between the two linguistic areas may also have been raised because of the important role they play in the search for equivalents of legal terms. In the practical part of the work have been proposed solutions to translation problems encountered at the level of terminology, focusing mainly on functional equivalence.Praca magisterska przedstawia ekwiwalencję funkcjonalną w tłumaczeniach prawniczych. Zagadnienie to omówione jest na przykładzie polskich dokumentów umów o pracę oraz brytyjskich contracts of employment. W pracy podejmowane są kwestie funkcjonalności języka i jego wpływu na osiągnięcie ekwiwalencji funkcjonalnej w tego rodzaju tekstach. Zostały tu również wskazane inne czynniki, które mają wpływ na wybór strategii tłumaczeniowej w procesie przekładu omawianych dokumentów. Kwestie różnic kulturowych, systemowych oraz stylistycznych pomiędzy oby dwoma obszarami językowymi również zostały poruszone, ze względu na istotną rolę, jaką odgrywają w poszukiwaniu ekwiwalentów terminów prawno-prawniczych. W części praktycznej pracy zostały zaproponowane rozwiązania dla napotkanych problemów tłumaczeniowych na poziomie terminologicznym, koncentrując się w głównej mierze na ekwiwalencji funkcjonalnej
