Causes of the late- 2000s financial crisis from the perspective of the Austrian School of economics

The purpose of this master's thesis is to point at the causes of late- 2000s financial crisis from the perspective of the Austrian School of economics.Relevant theories of the school are presented: theories of capital, structure of production and the Austrian business cycle theory.Thesis focuses on primary causes of the crisis, located in the American economy. US housing bubble is the main axis of analysis. Federal Reserve's expansionary monetary policy is identified as the main cause of the crisis. Paper analyses methods, which allow the Fed to influence the market. Artificially low interest rates are pointed at as a cause of real estate market malinvestments. US Federal Government's housing policy is identified as a supplementary factor, leading to the crisis. Intervention through legislative means and Government Sponsored Enterprises (GSEs) is described.Theoretical part of the thesis has been based on both historical and contemporary authors of the Austrian School.Przedmiotem pracy magisterskiej jest wskazanie na przyczyny kryzysu finansowego przełomu I i II dekady XXI wieku, przy użyciu teorii i metody austriackiej szkoły ekonomii. Przedstawione są, istotne dla tematu, koncepcje teoretyczne szkoły: teoria kapitału, struktury produkcji oraz cyklu koniunkturalnego. Praca koncentruje się na pierwotnych źródłach kryzysu, lokalizowanych w gospodarce amerykańskiej. Za główną oś analizy przyjęty jest boom na rynku nieruchomości w USA. Jako główna przyczyna kryzysu identyfikowana jest ekspansywna polityka monetarna Rezerwy Federalnej. Praca analizuje metody oddziaływania Fed na rynek. Wskazany jest wpływ sztucznie zaniżonych stóp procentowych na błędy inwestycyjne, dotyczące rynku domów. Jako dodatkowy czynnik, prowadzący do kryzysu, identyfikowana jest polityka mieszkaniowa Rządu Federalnego USA.
