Ecological parenting: an attempt at sociological definition

The goal of this work is to analyse ecological parenting not as another parenting model, but as a lifestyle based on postmaterlialist values. Ecological paretning is in fact a large phenomenon and cover a vaste range of everyday activities and choices. The most important theoretical perspectives present in this work are the concepts of feflexive modernity and risk society. The research conducted had an explorative character and three main axes : expert systems, postmaterialits values and large social context. In the first analytical chapte I tried to explain the role of expert systems for the construction of lifestyle and the strategies leading to rejection of expert’s suggestions. In the second chapter I reconstructed values that constitute the base of respondents’s lifestyle. In the third chapter I depicted ecological paretnhood in a large social context and underlined barriers ecological parents encounter. I also presented their engagement and activities they take out in order to make their lifestyle popular and to remove those barriers.Celem niniejszej pracy jest ukazanie ekologicznego rodzicielstwa nie jako kolejnego wzorca rodzicielstwa, ale jako opierającego się na wartościach postmaterialistycznych stylu życia. Wybór kategorii stylu życia wynika z faktu, iż ekologiczne rodzicielstwo obejmuje szeroki zakres praktyki życiowej badanych osób i znacznie wykracza poza kwestie ściśle związane z rodzicielstwem. Szersze tło dla poruszanych zagadnień stanowią koncepcje nowoczesności refleksyjnej oraz społeczeństwa ryzyka. Praca ma charakter eksploracyjny, zaś analiza zjawiska przebiega w trzech kierunkach. Pierwsza jej część ukazuje wpływ systemów eksperckich na styl życia respondentek oraz ukazuje strategie, za pomocą kwestionują one wskazówki ekspertów. Druga część stanowi próbę rekonstrukcji wartości, na których opiera się styl życia respondentek. Rekonstrukcji dokonano w oparciu o znaczenia przypisywane codziennym praktykom wchodzącym w zakres stylu życia. Ostatnia część pracy poświęcona została funkcjonowaniu ekologicznego rodzicielstwa w szerszym kontekście społecznym. Poruszono temat barier, na jakie napotykają respondentki w związku z praktykowanym stylem życia oraz przybliżono strategie działania mające na celu przełamywanie tychże barier oraz popularyzowanie ekologicznego rodzicielstwa w społeczeństwie polskim
