This work is a monograph on filling the Polish publishing gap in the subject of the early-modern stereotype of the witch and with the attempt to confront it with contemporary sociological and demographic research. The key point of the work is a belief, that women sentenced during the pan-European witch-hunting, were innocent. To answer the question, what determined the character of the stereotype of the early-modern witch, I am focusing on three main factors: the stereotype of the woman built up by the Roman Catholic Church, the difficult situation of socio-economic early modern Europe and the development of the Christian demonology.
