Body image and perception of obese people

The aim of the study was the assessment of body perception by obese people and their relation to the people with excessive body weight. 60 persons took part in this research. Owing to this that men were 6 (10%) and women were 54 (90%) only results of researches of the women were taken into consideration. Hence 54 questionnaires was analysed. The research have been carried out among adult people with the excess weight and obesity who participated in course Weight Loss Challenge - „Healthy Nutrition and Making look slimmer” which lasted 12 weeks. In this study the author’s questionnaire was used. This questionnaire included 43 questions, among them : open, half open and closed. The questionnaire included the questions about own body perception and socio-economic questions. Analysis of study results showed that only 19% respondents were satisfied with own body. 63% questioned women was dissatisfied with their legs/thighs, 60% with their belly, smaller number of respondents (26%) were dissatisfied with their hips, the next people with their shoulders, body weight and buttocks. Only 2% of women agreed with the statement that they would prefer to lose the hearing, the hair, the fingers and to live one year less than to be the obese person. The research also showed that 35% respondents declared that they don’t look like well, 31% declared that they look like on average, 19% - bad but 4% respondents declared that they look like very well. The prevailing majority of women evaluated that obese people are less atractive than slim people, they are more shy and their obese figure is not aesthetic. Z uwagi na to, że osób płci męskiej było 6 (10%), a żeńskiej 54 (90%), uwzględniono wyniki badań kobiet. Stąd dalej analizowano 54 kwestionariusze. Badania przeprowadzone zostały wśród osób dorosłych z nadwagą i otyłością, które uczestniczyły w 12 tygodniowym kursie Weight Loss Challenge - "Zdrowe Odżywianie i Wyszczuplanie". W tej pracy został użyty autorski kwestionariusz ankiety. Autorska ankieta zawierała 43 pytania, wśród nich: pytania otwarte, półotwarte i zamknięte. Kwestionariusz zawierał pytania dotyczące percepcji własnej sylwetki oraz pytania socjoekonomiczne.Analizując wyniki badań, wykazano, że tylko 19% badanych było zadowolonych w własnego ciała. 63% badanych kobiet było niezadowolonych z nóg/ud, 60% z brzucha, mniejsza liczba ankietowanych (26%) niezadowolona była z bioder, kolejne osoby z ramion, wagi ciała i pośladków. Tylko 2 % kobiet zgodziło się ze stwierdzeniem, że wolałaby utracić słuch, włoscy, palce, żyć rok krócej, niż być osobą otyłą. Badania wykazały również, że 35% badanych uznało, że nie wygląda dobrze, przeciętnie wygląda 31 % kobiet, źle 19%, natomiast bardzo dobry wygląd stwierdziło 4% respondentek. Zdecydowana większość kobiet oceniła, że osoby otyłe są mniej atrakcyjne niż osoby szczupłe, są bardziej nieśmiałe, a ich otyła sylwetka jest nieestetyczna.
