Cultural determinants of the Asian population health behaviors based on example of the Korean society

The aim of this thesis was to demonstrate cultural determinants of the Korean society health related behaviors to facilitate the understanding of Korean people behaviors, feelings and needs in everyday and illness situations. The study was based on scientific articles analisys, direct interviews and participanting observation among South Koreans. The concept of the culture and transcultural nursing was defined and the elements of Giger & Davidhizar’s tarnscultural assasement model were described. Further analisys of the cultural determinants of Korean society behaviors was based on this model. Cultural factors shaping the philosophy and the social system of Korea were described. The culture elements such as: Korean style, taboos, language, verbal and nonverbal communication, family structure, traditions and typical everyday behaviors were analised. In the thesis the particularity of moral principles and family structure in the context of Confucian philosophy were pointed out.On the base of Giger and Davidhizar transcultural model the issues concerning public and private space, time, environmental control of social organization consisting of health behavior, eastern medicine theory and prevention of diseases were described. The typical diseases of Korean society were also explained. The final chapter provide examples of difficult situations in the nurse-patient relationships and their implications for nursing care.Celem pracy było przedstawienie kulturowych uwarunkowań zachowań zdrowotnych społeczeństwa koreańskiego dla ułatwienie zrozumienia zachowań, uczuć i potrzeb Koreańczyków w sytuacjach codziennych i w przypadku choroby. Zastosowano metodę analizy artykułów naukowych oraz wywiadu bezpośredniego i obserwacji uczestniczącej wśród mieszkańców Korei Południowej.Zdefiniowano pojęcia kultury i pielęgniarstwa transkulturowego oraz opisano elementy modelu pielęgniarstwa transkulturowego Giger i Davidhizar. Analizę czynników warunkujących zachowania społeczeństwa koreańskiego przedstawiono w oparciu o powyższy model. Zaprezentowano czynniki kulturowe kształtujące filozofię i system społeczny Korei, opisano elementy kultury dotyczące stylu koreańskiego, tabu, języka, komunikowania werbalnego i pozawerbalnego, struktury rodziny, tradycji i typowych zachowań życia codziennego. Ukazano również specyfikę zasad moralnych i struktury rodzinnej w kontekście filozofii konfucjańskiej. Wykorzystując elementy modelu Giger i Davidhizard poruszono zagadnienia dotyczące przestrzeni publicznej i prywatnej, czasu, organizacji społecznej kontroli środowiska obejmującej zachowania zdrowotne, teorię medycyny wschodniej oraz prewencję chorób. Poruszono też temat chorób typowych dla społeczeństwa koreańskiego.W końcowym rozdziale przytoczono przykłady trudnych sytuacji w relacji pielęgniarka-pacjent i ich konsekwencje dla działań pielęgniarskich
