Educational learned helplessness and locus of control over school marks in students with mild mental retardation - a developmental perspective.

The main aim of this work is to present the interindividual and intraindividual differences in the educational learned helplessness level as well as in the level of locus of control over the school marks within the group of mild mental retardation students and their mentally able peers. Furthermore, this work presents the dependences between these variables. A developmental perspective has been included in the research. Three 120-person age groups participated in the study (primary school, secondary school and vocational school students). Within each group, 60 individuals constituted an experimental group and 60 a control group. Educational learned helplessness was studied by the Scale of Intellectual Helplessness developed by Grzegorz Sędek, whereas locus of control over the school marks was studied by the Scale of Locus of Control Over School Marks developed by Barbara Szmigielska. The results indicate that there are differences in the range of studied constructs between the investigated groups. There are also some visible tendencies showing their change together with age, however, they concern mainly students in intellectual norm. In some groups, between studied variables, the correlation has been reported, however its value should be acknowledged as a weak one.Głównym celem niniejszej pracy jest ukazanie różnic interindywidualnych i intraindywidualnych w poziomie wyuczonej bezradności edukacyjnej i poziomie poczucia kontroli nad ocenami szkolnymi, w grupie osób z niepełnosprawnością intelektualną w stopniu lekkim oraz ich pełnosprawnych rówieśników. Ponadto, praca ukazuje zależności jakie zachodzą pomiędzy tymi zmiennymi. W badaniach uwzględniona została perspektywa rozwojowa. Przebadano trzy 120-osobowe grupy wiekowe (uczniowie szkół podstawowych, gimnazjów i szkół zawodowych). W obrębie każdej z nich 60 osób tworzyło grupę badawczą, a 60 – kontrolną. Do badania wyuczonej bezradności edukacyjnej użyto Skali Bezradności Intelektualnej (SBI) autorstwa Grzegorza Sędka, natomiast do zbadania poczucie umiejscowienia kontroli nad ocenami szkolnymi – Skali Poczucia Kontroli nad Ocenami Szkolnymi (UK-OS) skonstruowanej przez Barbarę Szmigielską. Wyniki wskazują, iż między badanymi grupami występują różnice w zakresie badanych konstruków. Zarysowały się też pewne tendencje wskazujące na zmianę ich poziomu wraz z wiekiem, dotyczą one jednak przede wszystkim uczniów w normie intelektualnej. W niektórych grupach, między badanymi zmiennymi zachodzi korelacja, jednak jej wartość należy uznać za słabą
