The level of knowledge on BLS among Military University of Technology students.

Introduction: Basic Life Support (BLS) is a form of medical care, which is provided to people suffering from illnesses or life-threatening injuries, before they get full medical care. It can be given by qualified medical staff, or individuals under condition, that they possess knowledge concerning first aid. BLS is used as a prehospital help without medical equipment.The aim of research: The aim of the thesis is to learn about Military University of Technology students' knowledge on BLS. It was the level of general knowledge about giving first aid to adults, children and drowning people that was assessed.Materials and Methods: The research was conducted among 50 second year students, of second-cycle programme, of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and the Department of Machine Building, at Military University of Technology in Warsaw. Both diagnostic poll method and the survey technique, were used and they consisted of questions concerning socio-demographical data and 22 questions assessing the level of the knowledge on BLS. On the basis of received results, the scale of knowledge level was drawn up. In the part of the survey, aimed at assessing the knowledge one could gain the total number of 22 points altogether.Results and conclusions: The results of the research indicate, that the knowledge of surveyed students is on satisfactory level. It can be noticed that there is a dependence between the knowledge level and a form of Secondary school or undergone training courses. The surveyed students do not demonstrate current knowledge on BLS, in comparison with regulations from 2005.Wstęp: Basic Life Support (BLS) jest to forma opieki medycznej, która udzielana jest poszkodowanym z chorobami bądź obrażeniami zagrażającymi życiu, zanim zostaną oni objęci pełną opieką medyczną. Może być udzielana przez wykwalifikowany personel medyczny, lub osoby fizyczne pod warunkiem, że posiadają oni wiedzę z zakresu udzielania pierwszej pomocy. BLS wykorzystywany jest jako pomoc przedszpitalna, można wykorzystywać go bez używania sprzętu medycznego.Cel badań: Celem pracy było poznanie wiedzy studentów Wojskowej Akademii Technicznej na temat BLS. Oceniano poziom wiedzy ogólnej na temat udzielania pierwszej pomocy osobom dorosłym, dzieciom oraz tonącym.Materiał i metody: Badania przeprowadzono wśród 50 studentów II roku, studiów II stopnia, Wojskowej Akademii Technicznej w Warszawie, Wydziału Mechanicznego, kierunek Mechanika i Budowa Maszyn. Zastosowano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego i technikę ankiety, która zawierała pytania o dane socjo- demograficzne oraz 22 pytania oceniające poziom wiedzy na temat BLS. Na podstawie otrzymanych wyników opracowano skalę oceniającą wiedzę studentów. W części testowej, sprawdzającej wiedzę ankietowanych, można było uzyskać łącznie 22 punkty.Wyniki i wnioski: Wyniki badań wskazują na to, iż poziom wiedzy ankietowanych studentów plasuje się na poziomie zadowalającym. Zauważyć można zależność poziomu wiedzy od rodzaju ukończonej szkoły średniej oraz odbytego kursu doszkalającego. Badani studenci nie wykazują aktualnej wiedzy na temat BLS, w porównaniu z zasadami postępowania z 2005 roku
