This research shows a background of the poor in France and Italy during late Middle Ages. Paupers are divided into two main categories: out of necessity and by choice. Master’s thesis describes feudal system, origin of the cities and other important events, which directly affected society’s pauperization. Separately, this paper takes up a subject related to impoverishment of people living in the countries as well as in the cities. Particular categories of the paupers, from the ‘wealthiest’ to the poorest, are included.
