Impact of work with dying patients to professional and personal development of nurses.

Introduction: Nurses are the group of professionals, who encounter other people death and dying more often than the rest of the society. The civilization changes and science progress meant that dying patients reside more often in different health care institutions instead spending last moments in home.Purpose: The main purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of work with dying patients to professional and personal development of nurses.Material and Methods: The study participants were 125 people. In this study the diagnostic survey and dialog have been used as research method. The collected material was subjected to statistical and qualitative analysis.Results and Conclusions: People with a very high and very low frequency of contact with dying patents have the most positive attitude to their work . Among the desirable traits and required skills respondents mentioned: empathy, resistance to difficult situations and active listening. The demographic variables, place and length of service, frequency of contact with the patient's death did not have any significant impact on the perception of the most important responsibilities in working with dying patient. Disquieting is that some respondents in difficult situations take stimulants. The most frequently point of leisure pursuit mentioned among respondents were: music, literature and cinema. Nurses do not feel fully prepared to work with dying patients. At the same time they have a strong need to contribute to their personal development.Pielęgniarki stanowią grupę zawodową, która zdecydowanie częściej od reszty społeczeństwa spotyka się ze śmiercią i umieraniem innych osób. Zmiany cywilizacyjne i postęp nauki sprawiły, bowiem że pacjenci umierający coraz częściej zamiast w domu, przebywają w różnych placówkach służby zdrowia. Cel pracy: Celem pracy było poznanie wpływu pracy z chorymi umierającymi na rozwój zawodowy i osobisty pielęgniarek.Materiał i Metody: W badaniach wzięło udział 125 osób. Jako metodę badawczą wykorzystano sondaż diagnostyczny oraz metodę dialogową. Zebrany materiał poddano analizie statystycznej oraz jakościowej.Wyniki i Wnioski: Najbardziej pozytywny stosunek do własnej pracy mają ankietowani o bardzo wysokiej i bardzo niskiej częstotliwości kontaktu ze śmiercią pacjentów. Wśród pożądanych cech charakteru i umiejętności wymaganych w pracy badani wymieniają: empatię, odporność na sytuacje trudne, aktywne słuchanie. Zmienne demograficzne, miejsce oraz staż pracy, częstość kontaktu ze śmiercią chorego nie mają poważnego wpływu na postrzeganie, najważniejszych obowiązków w pracy z pacjentem umierającym. Niepokojące jest, że część ankietowanych w sytuacjach trudnych sięga po używki. Wśród najczęściej wymienianych zainteresowań respondenci wskazują: muzykę, literaturę oraz kino. Pielęgniarki nie czują się w pełni przygotowane do pracy z chorymi umierającymi. Przy czym posiadają potrzebę podejmowania działań na rzecz własnego rozwoju
