The analysis of selected dimorphic features at adult individuals in anthropological research.

The analyses of sex determination and sex estimation depends on differences in skeletal morphology between females and males. In determining the sex in adult skeletal it is essential to examine the whole skeleton. The present work have reviewed the metric and non-metric (epigenetic) methods to estimate the sex. The main indicator of sexual dimorphism are features visible in the skull and dentition, pelvic and other bones of the skeleton. The strongest sexual dimorphism in the adult skeleton is represented at the pelvic and the skull. On the other bones of the skeleton dimorphism traits are not so apparent, but still helpful during the estimate of sex. In relation to the first published works, investigation methods became significantly developed and detailed. The process of determining the sexual dimorphism is used in many fields of science. It could be helpful in defining skeletal sex during the excavation or in process of forensic procedures. The studies of skeletal traits are important also because they provide many details of the human biology.Analiza dymorfizmu płciowego i określenie płci zależy od różnic w morfologii szkieletu kobiety i mężczyzny. Podczas prób określania płci istotne jest aby badać cały szkielet. W niniejszej pracy omówiono metody metryczne i niemetryczne (epigenetyczne) oceny płci oraz cechy czaszki i jej uzębieniu, miednicy oraz innych kości szkieletu, które służą jako jedne z głównych wyznaczników dymorfizmu płciowego. Najsilniejszy dymorfizm w dojrzałym szkielecie przedstawiają czaszka oraz miednica. Na innych kościach szkieletu cechy te nie są tak widoczne jednak pomocne w trakcie oszacowania płci. Metody badań uległy istotnemu rozwinięciu i uszczegółowieniu w stosunku do pierwszych prac jakie się ukazały. Proces oznaczania dymorfizmu płciowego jest wykorzystywany w wielu dziedzinach nauk i pozwala w sposób pełny i wielowymiarowy określać płeć szkieletów podczas badań wykopaliskowych czy w trakcie procedur kryminalistycznych. Badania cech szkieletu są ważne również z tego względu, że dostarczają wielu informacji z zagadnień biologii człowieka
