Podobieństwa te daje się zauważyć na poziomie sygnału EEG. Stwierdzone zostało, że będące pod narkozą uretanową szczury, posiadają spontaniczne i cykliczne zmiany stanów mózgu, które przypominają zmiany zachodzące podczas snu fizjologicznego. Ponadto inne elektroencefalograficzne podobieństwo narkozy uretanowej i snu naturalnego widoczne jest przy analizie charakterystycznych fal, jakie można zauważyć w fazie synchronizacji i desynchronizacji w EEG. Analogie odpowiednich stanów mózgu mają również miejsce przy analizie elektromiogramu (EMG) – spadek napięcia mięśni przy przechodzeniu z fazy deaktywacji do aktywacji kory, tempie pracy serca i tempie oddychania.
