The most popular and fundamental method for the synthesis of β-lactams is [2+2] cycloaddition reaction of ketenes and imines. The keten-imines reaction is known as Staudinger reaction from name of discoverer. I focus on study on cycloaddition reaction which lead to spiro-fused β lactams (2-azetidinones). First step of my laboratory research include the synthesis of imines derivatives of (-)-carvone and (+)-carvone. In reaction I used amines: p-anisidine, aniline, 4-chloroaniline, 4-nitroaniline and (-)-carvone or (+)-carvone.
