While considering the etymology of a word "woman" it is quite obvious that this word is a relatively fresh linguistic creation. Up to the 14th century it was common to describe a female adult by words:'żena' and ' zona' which later on was restricted only to a married woman. The word ' żona' with its original meaningwas replaced by a word 'niewiasta'( originally meaning a foreign female who was working as a household servant). 'Podwika' and 'białogłowa' were also the terms applied to describe a woman.The word 'kobieta' itself appeared in the 17th century when it was popularised by satiric works in literature, which, however, stressed its insulting nature ( the word derives from 'kobu'-pigsty, 'kobi'-fortell and 'koby'-female horse).It was us...
