Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - low awareness of the great social problem

Abstract Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is one of the most important public health problem. COPD is the third most common chronic disease in Poland, which cause death of 14 – 15 thousand people every year.Currently it is well know that the disease is systemic, resulting from chronic inflammation, which is the immune response to harmful dusts and gases. It is estimated that tobacco smoke is responsible from the development of the disease in 80%.The effective prophylaxis is needed to reduce the incidence of COPD. The special emphasis should be given to raising awareness, publicizing the problem by health professionals and the media, information about the dangers of smoking and taking up heavy smokers to special care. Aim of this study is to assess the state of art of the smokers on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, to answer the question whether they are aware of the real risk of developing COPD, and whether they need education and a desire to benefit from anti-smoking counseling and therapy.To perform the test method used diagnostic suevery. Research techique was a questionnaire, the questionnaire tool.After analyzing the qualitative and quantitative research results concludet that the general knowledge test on COPD is low, but the majority of respondents expessed the need for more effective anti-smoking education.1. Streszczenie Przewlekła obturacyjna choroba płuc stanowi jeden z najważniejszych problemów zdrowia publicznego na świecie. W Polsce obecnie jest trzecią, pod względem częstości, przewlekłą chorobą, na którą rocznie umiera 14 – 15 tysięcy osób. Aktualnie wiadomo, że choroba ta ma charakter ogólnoustrojowy, wynikający z przewlekłego procesu zapalnego, który jest odpowiedzią układu immunologicznego na działanie szkodliwych pyłów lub gazów. Szacuje się, że dym tytoniowy jest w 80% odpowiedzialny za rozwój choroby. Aby zmniejszyć liczbę zachorowań na POChP należy podnieść świadomość społeczną problemu. Nagłaśnianie tematu przez pracowników służby zdrowia i media, informowanie o szkodliwości palenia (czynnego i biernego) tytoniu oraz obejmowanie nałogowych palaczy poradnictwem antynikotynowym, to wskazana, pełna profilaktyka. Celem pracy jest ocena stanu wiedzy osób palących tytoń na temat przewlekłej obturacyjnej choroby płuc, uzyskanie odpowiedzi na pytanie czy są świadomi realnego zagrożenia zachorowania na POChP oraz czy mają potrzebę edukacji i chęć skorzystania z poradnictwa i terapii antynikotynowej. Badaniem objęto 30 dorosłych, losowo wybranych kobiet i mężczyzn, aktualnie palących tytoń. Do przeprowadzenia badania posłużono się metodą sondażu diagnostycznego. Techniką badawczą była ankieta, narzędziem zaś kwestionariusz ankiety. Po dokonaniu analizy ilościowej i jakościowej wyników badań wnioskowano, że ogólna wiedza respondentów natemat POChP jest na niskim poziomie, jednakże większość spośród nich wyraża potrzebę skuteczniejszej edukacji antynikotynowej
