Possibilities and limitations of bicycle tourism development in the community and district of Rybnik

The idea of creating cycle routes in the community and the district of Rybnik was born in 1998. The first cycle route in this area was created in the same year. Since that time, the bicycle tourism has been intensively developing. The cycle routes network currently comprises 15 main cycle routes and 8 linking routes with the total length of 250 km. The aim of the master's thesis was to evaluate the possibilities of further development of this form of qualified tourism. The research methods used in this work was query library, interview, analysis and creating maps and preparation of the illustrations. The research based on the information was conducted between 10th January and 9th March 2009. The results have shown that it is necessary to increase the attraction of the cycle routes by improving the touristic accommodation and creating a new route which would complete the existing network. Its way was suggested by the author. Moreover, there is an immense need of intensification of the promotion of the bicycle tourism by mass media as well as educational centers.Idea powstania szlaków rowerowych w Rybniku i powiecie rybnickim zrodziła się w 1998 roku. W tym samym roku powstał pierwszy szlak rowerowy na tym terenie. Od tego czasu turystyka rowerowa zaczęła się intensywnie rozwijać. Obecnie sieć składa się z 15 głównych szlaków rowerowych oraz 8 szlaków łącznikowych o ogólnej długości około 250 km. Celem pracy była ocena dalszych możliwości rozwoju tej formy turystyki kwalifikowanej. Metodami badawczymi wykorzystanymi w pracy była kwerenda biblioteczna, wywiad kwestionariuszowy, analiza map i sporządzenie ilustracji kartograficznych oraz sporządzenie dokumentacji fotograficznej. Badania opierające się na informacjach wtórnych zostały wykonane między 10 stycznia a 9 marca 2009 roku. Wyniki badań pokazały, że konieczne jest zwiększenie atrakcyjności szlaków rowerowych poprzez ulepszanie ich zagospodarowania turystycznego oraz utworzenie nowego szlaku, który byłby uzupełnieniem istniejącej sieci. Jego przebieg został zaproponowany przez autorkę. Ponadto niezbędna jest intensyfikacja promocji turystyki rowerowej poprzez środki masowego przekazu oraz placówki wychowawcze
