The skin is the largest organ of the human body. It fulfills various functions, such as preventing the loss of salts and fluids as well as regulates the body temperature. In addition, the skin acts as a highly complex and effective biological barrier, hindering the penetration of harmful substances (feature mostly attributed to the stratum corneum; SC).
