Shell middens represent an environmental and cultural heritage which is now threatened by climate change and the associated intensification of marine erosion. The three archaeological occupations layers in the southwest dune of the Beniguet island (Le Conquet, Finistère, France) contain significant amounts of Patella sp. shells. The island is still surrounded by populations of living Patella vulgata, constituting a unique opportunity to apply the methods of sclerochronology on this biological archive.
