Radiomics is an emerging field based on the extraction of features computed from medical images. The assumption is that these features might help characterize the underlying biology and predict patient response to treatment. In oncology, medical images provide anatomical, functional and molecular information regarding the whole tumor (or the set of tumoral foci) as well as its (micro)environment, contrary to a biopsy. Nevertheless, radiomics requires the development of methodological tools to extract the features, handle heterogeneous data, determine if there is enough information in the data for a given classification or prediction task, or conclude on the validity of the conclusions drawn from a small cohort.
