The topic of this thesis is the influence of voids on the mechanical properties of carbon fibre reinforced polymers used in high performance applications, such as pressure vessels for hydrogen storage. Manufactured through filament winding, these thick-walled structures can show a significant void content. The effect of these voids on the strength of pressure vessels and, more in general, on the strength of composite structures subjected to multiaxial loads, is not thoroughly understood.
