Introduction: Roofers are exposed to PAHs as they apply new roofing membranes (bitumens) and plane older roofing membranes (coal tars). The purpose of this paper was to assess the current PAH exposure rates roofers face, as well as to compare them to data collected over a 15-year period of time. Materials and methods: Metrologies included individual air samplings and/or a biological monitoring. 73 roofers were divided into 3 groups: bitumen sheet flame welding, bitumen sheet pasting with a hot bitumen binder and planing of older coal-tar pitch roofing membranes.
