The present work is related to the study of oxidation mechanisms of Zirconim alloys entering into the fabrication of cooling system in nuclear plants. Different samples taken during oxidation in pure aor lithiated water under 180 bar and 360°C have been studied by Raman spectrometry. Stresses and phase distributions of tetragonal and monoclinic forms in the scale thickness have been determined and the pronounced correlation between the presence of a dense tetragonal phase in the neighbourhood of the metal/oxide interface with compressive stress state (2 GPa) has been observed.
