Chapitre 5International audienceIn this chapter, the authors first have a look at the developments in the R&D organisation in the biotechnology-based industries since the 1980s. They analyse biotechnology innovation networks with special emphasis on two types of actors. Large Diversified Firms (LDFs) and Dedicated Biotechnology Firms (DBFs). In a numerical model, they then analyse the advantages and disadvantages for firms of going-it-alone strategies and of networking strategies, taking into account the environmental factors influencing the formation of links between actors. Network formation will be shown to display a dynamics going beyond a first wave of networks and leading to a re-organisation of the partnerships involved.Dans ce chapi...
