In the course of pursuing several microwave solid state subjects at Marquette University, the author became interested in the idea of the propagation of electromagnetic energy at microwave frequencies through materials such as ferrites which have relative permeabilities which can be far different from that of free-space. A preliminary investigation was accomplished for the purpose of finding a new device or application based on induced changes in the ferrite permeability, and the accelerometer described in this thesis eventually resulted.
