Entre los factores que contribuyen a ello se ha señalado un aumento en la incidencia de obesidad y síndrome metabólico, con su carga de riesgo cardiovascular y cáncer. Esta revisión resume la evidencia acerca de la presencia comórbida de esquizofrenia, depresión unipolar y trastorno bipolar por un lado y síndrome metabólico u obesidad por el otro.
