Organ preservation has been of major importance ever sincetransplantation developed into a global clinical activity. Therelatively simple procedures were developed on a basiccomprehension of low-temperature biology as related to organsoutside the body. In the past decade, there has been asignificant increase in knowledge of the sequelae of effectsin preserved organs, and how dynamic intervention by perfusioncan be used to mitigate injury and improve the qualityof the donated organs.
