Short description of the different types of contemporary innovations that might be relevant to small-scale forestry within dramatically changing global and European scenarios. While the dominant technological and industry-driven innovation might be useful to small-scale forestry for remaining connected with the global market and policies, the emerging social innovation might become a useful instrument for supporting networks creation among local smallholders, allowing them to create critical mass, economy of scales and building social capital and resilience capacity
