Sjögren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease that affects salivary gland tissue. Patients can show different degrees of phenotype that can vary from mild to severe systemic symptoms. So far, the etiopathogenesis of this condition is still not fully unraveled but it is believed that genetic and environmental factors are involved. The purpose is to understand the role of genetics on the appearance of the Sjögren's syndrome and describe the clinical signs that might alert for the presence of a patient with this condition. The most impacting oral manifestation is xerostomia. The role of the dental doctor in the diagnosis, treatment and oral rehabilitation of these patients, is crucial to ensure a good quality of life.info:eu-repo/semantics...
