A Research Paper Recommender System Based on Topic Model

With the increasing popularity of information technology services, collaborative filtering technique has been applied to research paper recommender systems. But collaborative filtering encounters cold-start problem in case of papers having no user feedbacks. For content-based analysis, vector space model is the most popular model for computing document similarity. However, this model suffers from sparsity problem. As a result, the similarity between documents is usually low. In this thesis, we propose a research paper recommender system based on topic model and collaborative filtering. The topic model is used to find the correlation between keywords in order to alleviate the sparsity problem of the vector space model. We also use matrix factorization with least-square method to adjust the weight of factors describing the interests of users.
