Trace elements in coals from the Teruel Mining District

[EN] The content and distribution of As, Ba, Be, Cd. Ce, Co, Cr, Cu, Dy. Er, Eu, Ge, Gd, Ho, La, Lu, Mn, Mo, Nd. Ni, Pb. Pt, Rb, Sb, Sm, Sr. Tb, Th, Tm, U, Yb, Zn, Zr, S and mineral matter have been studied in 32 representative samples of coal seams from the Escucha Formation (Middle Albian) in the Teruel Coal Mining District. There is a large variability of trace element contents in the studied coal samples, together with the mineral matter content. The local diagenetic conditions control more the trace element contents in coal seams of the Escucha Formation than differences in depositional environments or in source lands, and sometimes they can render organic or inorganic associations of trace elements as Ge, Th, Zn, U, etc., which is difficult to elucidate. The mean contents of the most part of the studied trace elements are similar to the world mean contents in coal. Only As and U are enriched in the studied coals in relation to the world mean contents (as S and Fe). However, Ba, Cd, Eu, La, Mo, Pb, Pr, Rb and Sb are depleted in relation to the world mean contents. A group of trace elements with mineral affinities has been distinguished: As, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Mo, Ni, Th, Rb, Sb, Zn and Zr. Of these elements As, Cd, Co, Cr, Mo, Ni. Pb. Sb and Zn are associated with iron and zinc sulfides content, and Mn with calcite content. Be, Ge and Sr probably show organic affinities. The organic or mineral affinities of the rare earth elements are difficult to elucidate, but the contents and distributions of La, Ce, Nd and Pr suggest a moderate inorganic affinity.[ES] Se ha realizado un estudio del contenido y distribución de As, Ba, Be, Cd, Ce, Co, Cr, Cu, Dy, Er, Eu, Ge, Gd, Ho, La, Lu, Mn, Mo, Nd, Ni, Pb, Pr, Rb, Sb, Sm, Sr, Tb, Th, Tm, U, Yb, Zn, Zr, S y materia mineral en 32 muestras representativas de capas de carbón de la Formación Escucha (Albiense medio) en el distrito minero turolense. Se ha observado una gran variación del contenido en los diferentes elementos traza en las muestras estudiadas que generalmente se debe a la variación en contenido mineral. Las condiciones diagenéticas locales, más que las diferencias en cuanto a medio de depósito o de áreas fuente, controlan generalmente el contenido en elementos traza, y en ocasiones dificultan la deducción de las asociaciones orgánicas o inorgánicas de elementos como Ge, Th, Zn, U, etcétera. El contenido medio de la mayor parte de los elementos traza analizados es similar a la media mundial de carbones. Solamente As y U están claramente enriquecidos en los carbones de la Formación Escucha (así como S y Fe). Ba, Cd, Eu, La, Mo, Pb, Pr, Rb y Sb son elementos ligeramente empobrecidos en los carbones estudiados respecto a la media mundial. Se ha distinguido un grupo de elementos traza con afinidad inorgánica constituido por, As, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Mo, Ni, Th, Rb, Sb, Zn y Zr, de ellos As, Cd, Co, Cr, Mo, Ni, Pb, Sb y Zn están asociados a sulfuros de hierro y cinc, y el Mn a calcita. Be, Ge y Sr presentan probablemente afinidad orgánica.
