NPS Defense Energy SeminarThe Presidio program has relied on technical solutions and human behavior to achieve the savings. This lecture will focus on how design influences the interactions between these two methods. Further, we will look at how design has led to a culture at the Presidio that provides real savings at low cost. Since human beings occupy the buildings, an energy program cannot rely solely on technological solutions. Presidio’s service-members typically arrive directly out of basic training and inhabit the Presidio for an average of 18 months. Since, for many, this is their first real military home, there is an opportunity to imbue an energy culture baseline on expectations that can carry over to the rest of their career. Mr Tulley will focus on how “affordances” require that facilities staff allow the energy culture to thrive by creating a physical environment that encourages energy and water conservation
