This chapter discusses graduate employment and examines the expectations of both employers and new graduates. We look at the skills, attributes and qualities required by new graduates entering a competitive labour market, examining how the transferable, soft and hard skills of new graduates can best be developed. We appraise the HRD challenges involved, and discuss the role of HRD practitioners in developing the skills of new graduates and in developing graduate employability. We then examine the role of government, employers' representatives, universities, colleges and graduates themselves in developing the skills and the experience necessary to gain and remain in employment.
