The aim of the research was to investigate whether non-shareholder constituencies in the banking industry in Ireland are protected by corporate governance mechanisms. The literature outlined key variables with respect to corporate governance and the banking industry. Areas such as the complexity of the industry; the principal stakeholders of the industry; the future focus of the industry; and corporate governance mechanisms and behaviours in the industry were explored in depth. A combination of sixty eight (68) quantitative questionnaires and two (2) qualitative semi-structured interviews was used to conduct the research.
