The discovery of the involvement of the gut microbiota in the etiology of obesity and associated metabolic disorders has led to the identification of Akkermansia muciniphila as a potential new target. This thesis aims to extend the pioneering work undertaken by the laboratory on the understanding of the dialogue existing between the host and this bacteria in the pathophysiological context of obesity. In mice, we discovered that the bacteria increases total energy expenditure, motor activity and energy elimination by stool. Finally, our first pilot study in humans shows that the administration of the bacteria for 3 months is well tolerated and safe in voluntary subjects.
