Many people have denounced society's treatment of psychiatric patients as dehumanizing, that is, denying their humanity. Nevertheless, no empirical research has been conducted on the direct perception that these people have of being dehumanized by others. The present work, therefore, aims to address this gap by investigating this issue in a population particularly at risk of being dehumanized: people with severe alcohol use disorder. This thesis investigates the relationship between people with severe alcohol use disorder’s feeling of being dehumanized and other key factors for their well-being and treatment.
