Both human and animal studies have shown mitochondrial and contractile dysfunction in hearts of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Exercise training has shown positive effects on cardiac function, but its effect on the mitochondria have been insufficiently explored. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of exercise training on mitochondrial function in T2DM hearts.
